For most part, basic hard round is good. For my paintings, I just use basic hard round set on pen pressure transparency, sometimes add a little wet edge and that's it.

What is the wet edge? I don't know what to use it for.
I used to use hard round too, but now I've found the spatter brush in ps default, and I think it's really good.
